The Role
We are looking for an experienced General Surgeon specialising in breast cancer to grow our general surgery team. WPRS’ Southwest Breast Clinic offers comprehensive management of breast cancer with a multi-disciplinary approach. The team comprises our specialist general surgeon, plastic surgeon, breast reconstruction nurse and ancillary staff. Our team works together with local medical oncologists and radiation oncologists in Warrnambool. Together we provide a comprehensive, world-class service in breast cancer management in a local setting, covering all aspects from diagnosis to reconstruction.
Our General Surgeon, Dr Scholtz Wiggett, manages a broad range of general surgical conditions and has a special interest in breast surgery and breast cancer, vascular surgery and endocrine surgery. Having completed his medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 1999, he spent some time in the United Kingdom before returning to South Africa to complete his general surgical training becoming a Fellow of the College of Surgeon of South Africa in 2008 and completed his Masters of Surgery in 2009. Mr Wiggett relocated to Warrnambool in 2019 from Pretoria.
Our team operates publicly across Victoria’s largest sub-regional health service and the South West’s major specialist referral centre at South West Healthcare Warrnambool campus (212 beds), South West Healthcare Camperdown campus (60 beds) and Portland District Health (69 beds).
Our surgeons also operate privately at St John of God Warrnambool Hospital (44 beds) and at WPRS Warrnambool and Mount Gambier for local anaesthetic day procedures.

Expedited Pathway
This pathway is for specialist international medical graduates (SIMGs) with an international specialist medical qualification on the Medical Board’s Expedited Specialist pathway: Accepted Qualifications List
If you have a qualification on this list, and meet other specialist registration requirements, you can apply directly to AHPRA for specialist registration.
Accepted qualifications in surgery are expected to be added to the Expedited Pathway in 2025, after assessment by the AMC is complete.
Mandatory Qualifications
MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia, Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Specialist qualification in Surgery (General Surgery)
Desired Qualifications
Specialist registration in dermatology with the Irish Medical Council (MC) or General Medical Council (GMC) and holds membership of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons or British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons
