Dr Adam Gascoigne is a Melbourne-trained specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon with extensive experience across the breadth of plastic surgery, including reconstructive microsurgery, hand surgery, skin cancer surgery, craniofacial surgery, and paediatric plastic surgery.
Adam completed his medical degree and Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne before undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy and a PhD in reconstructive surgical anatomy. His doctoral research, “The Angiosome Concept Revisited”, explored the detailed vascular anatomy of the skin and its implications for surgical practice — work that has been published in leading international journals and presented at major surgical conferences.
He completed advanced surgical training in plastic and reconstructive surgery through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, working in Victoria’s major adult and paediatric tertiary centres, including the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Alfred Health, and St Vincent’s Hospital. Over the course of his training, he has been involved in more than 3,500 procedures, acting as the primary surgeon in the majority.
In addition to his clinical work, Adam maintains an active research role as an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He has authored multiple textbook chapters and peer-reviewed articles on topics ranging from complex wound reconstruction to the vascular anatomy underlying flap surgery.
Adam cares deeply about patient-centred care, combining meticulous surgical technique with a warm and approachable manner. He takes the time to listen, explain, and work closely with each patient to achieve their desired outcomes.
Outside of the operating theatre, Adam has volunteered both locally and internationally, including surgical work in Cambodia and community health education for refugee communities in Australia.
